Everyone knows that Torontonians are very passionate about their city. Walk down any street and you will see a slew of people wearing t-shirts, jackets, hats or toques adorned with the words Toronto, The Six, or other Toronto inspired logos. And now thanks to Nike, locals can add a pair of monochrome Toronto inspired sneakers to their wardrobes.
The sneaker gods recently announced that the release of Toronto-inspired shoes. The Air Max 1 will be called "The 6" and will cost $165.
The sneakers have a white sole, black leather body and wax laces, which were designed to combat the cold, wet Canadian winters.
The shoe's purple sock liners are inspired by the Aurora Borealis and the graphic on the sock liner features the iconic CN Tower. The 6 is written in purple on the inside of the shoe and there is a striking red maple leaf on the front of the tongue on the shoe.
Why the 6? Local rapper and Toronto Raptors ambassador Drake coined the phrase on his 2014 album Views from the 6, and the phrase has skyrocketed in popularity since. The six gives pays tribute to the city's two main area codes, 416 and 647, and can now be found on ads, slogans, clothing, and songs.
