To all of our fellow Canadian sock lovers, this Friday is none other than our nation’s birthday — its 149th birthday to be exact. Canada Day is one of the most important holidays for Canadians as it celebrates the birth of our great nation in 1867 when Canada gained its freedom from British rule.
And while there will be plenty of events taking place nationwide, sometimes the best way to celebrate surrounded by family and friends. And you’re in luck, as we’ve rounded up the best ways to celebrate.
So, round up your closest friends and family members and get ready to celebrate the Great White North this long weekend.
Hit The Streets
No matter where you live, every community will be hosting a Canada Day event. Whether that’s a parade, outdoor concert or BBQ, hit the streets and join in on the fun. We recommend checking your local newspaper prior to find out when events are taking place.
Host a BBQ
Throw a potluck-style cookout for all of your family and friends and have everyone bring their own food item that was invented in Canada. Some food suggestions could include: Poutine, Nanaimo Bars, Butter Tarts, Beavertails, B.C salmon, anything with maple syrup and bacon, and plenty of Caesar mix.
Have a Caesar Making Contest
Every true Canadian knows that one of Canada’s greatest inventions was the Caesar, which was created in Calgary in 1969. Today, it’s made with Mott’s
Clamato, a lime, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce and a celery stick. If you decide to host some friends this Canada Day, hold a Caesar making contest and see who can come up with the most elaborate recipe by using unique garnishes.
Watch Some Fireworks
Find out if you’re able to light off fireworks on your own property or enjoy a local firework show in your area. Bring the entire family and plenty of blankets and make an event out of it.
You can get into the patriotic spirit by wearing a simple maple leaf T-shirt or by going bold and wearing the Canadian flag over your shoulders. Or you can get creative by showing off your pride for Canada with bold red and white attire — make sure to challenge your friends and see who can put together the most patriotic costume.
But don’t forget about your socks! Show off your patriotism from your head down to your toes by wearing a pair of awesome Canadian inspired socks from Yo Sox. We currently have a pair of awesome maple leaf adorned socks as well as a Canada Day sock bundle pack available in our online store.
